Prosthetic Care for a Child in Uganda<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The amputation rate in Uganda is very high. Due to political conflicts, poverty, and a limited medical care system, access to proper orthopedic care is difficult \u2013 there is a lack of suitable clinics, specialized staff, materials, and funding opportunities. <\/p>\n

The Ottobock Global Foundation cooperates with Pro Uganda e.V. to improve prosthetic care and the quality of life locally. The organization has set up an orthopedic workshop, where numerous treatments and training sessions have already taken place. In addition to donations of prosthetic parts and materials for children’s care, the Ottobock Global Foundation has covered the transportation costs for 116 wheelchairs donated by the MedTech company Ottobock to Pro Uganda. These wheelchairs are used for training purposes and are also distributed free of charge to healthcare facilities. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Traffic accidents, injuries from exposed power lines, and a lack of prenatal care are just a few of the causes of amputations and deformities in countless children in Ecuador.<\/p>\n

With the founding of the organization Sprung ins Leben in 2008, its chairwoman Philippa Mund set out to provide prosthetics to as many of these children as possible. She achieves this through a large network of cooperations, which, since the fall of 2023, also includes the Ottobock Global Foundation. The foundation supports the organization with prosthetic donations and covers the costs of initial and follow-up treatments for the children. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Collaboration with the Diospi Suyana Mission Hospital in Peru<\/h3>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

The Diospi Suyana Mission Hospital in the Peruvian Andes serves the impoverished, predominantly indigenous population from the southern part of the country. The Quechua people continue to face ethnic persecution and social discrimination to this day. <\/p>\n

The Ottobock Global Foundation supports the provision of orthoses and prostheses for children and adolescents at the hospital\u2019s orthopedic center, which is entirely funded by donations. As the first orthopedic workshop in the region, it provides approximately 500,000 people with local access to medical technology aids. The German orthopedic technician master Christian Haupt serves the community on-site. In August 2021, he and his family moved to Peru to volunteer his expertise and support healthcare provision. <\/p>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
